I came across a picture of tiny crochet monster slippers on Pinterest, and faced the same conundrum as the lady who reverse engineered them. It didn’t bring me any closer to a pattern though, so I decided to make my own, like she did. I found some green scrap yarn and got to work. My son J was so excited that he kept wanting to wear them everywhere, so I actually made another pair in red. Now he just wears them when it’s too cold for just socks at home.
These slippers were actually really easy to make and can be easily scaled up or down depending on the size of the foot or the size of the yarn used (I used really thin yarn for the green ones and much thicker for the red ones). The basic principle is that you crochet in a round until the leg part, then side to side leaving space for the leg, then decrease in the back for a rounded effect and join. But here are the details:
- chain 17
- sc in second chain from hook
- sc until the last chain
- sc 3 more in the last chain
- sc in both front and back of the next stitch going around
- sc across the back side of the chain
- sc 2 more in the last chain
- sc around until desired length (~22 rows)
- sc 10 a new row, turn around
- sc 30, turn around
- sc 10 rows
- sc 8, dec 1, sc 2, dec 1, sc 2, dec 1, sc 2, dec 1, sc 8 (26)
- sc 6, dec 1, sc 1, dec 1, sc 1, dec 1, sc 1, dec 1, sc 1, dec 1, sc 6 (22)
- sc 6, dec 1, sc 2, dec 1, sc 6 (18)
- sc 6, dec 1, sc 2, dec 1, sc 6 (16)
- sc 16
- sc 5, dec 1, sc 2, dec 1, sc 5 (14)
- ss two sides together
Then use a black yarn with a needle to create the nails on the front and you are done!
