Last year, J was obsessed with Minecraft. And I was obsessed with making my own ornaments. And the Minecraft ornaments were born. We looked at some ideas for what to make and settled on a Slime, Enderman, Ghost, Platinum block, Grass block, and Lava block.
Let me start by saying this was harder than it looked and some of them don’t look so great. I ordered this glitter tape, but it did not stick on too well and was coming off in some places where the ornaments were not flat.
We poured some glue into the ornaments, swirled it around so that it covered all the sides, and then put glitter inside and shook it to get the glitter stuck to the glue. This part was not as easy as it sounds. The glue was sliding down the sides with the glitter, leaving empty spaces. Some did better than others.
Grass Block
The Grass block was the worst. The green tape on top was not sticking at all.
Enderman
The Enderman was my favorite. It was simple, the color combination was cool, and the glitter stuck pretty well. I used black glitter and purple tape (two rectangles for the eyes).
Slime
The Slime looked cute with that little face, but the glitter was a nightmare on this one. I used green glitter and black tape (two squares for the eyes and a rectangle for the mouth).
Ghost
The Ghost was probably the most forgiving of the bunch. The glitter stuck well, but it was also harder to tell if there were problems because it was so light. I used white glitter and black tape (two rectangles for the eyes, a rectangle for the nose, and a long rectangle for the mouth).
Platinum Block
This was the easiest. Platinum is just silver glitter, which stayed on the best of all of them, and light blue tape (rectangles of various sizes and shapes) in random locations. It also has a really nice sparkle when it’s on the tree.
Lava Block
It ended up being decent, but the Lava block was my problem child. The glitter ran down the sides the worst out of all of the ornaments and I had to do it twice. I used red, yellow, and orange glitter and no tape.
In the end, it was just a nice thing to do with my son, even if the ornaments didn’t turn out as well as I hoped.
