It’s a constant problem – I find cool yarn on sale and buy it without a plan of what to use it for, then it takes me forever to find something to use it for. I kept checking my stash to just feel this velvety soft yarn once in a while but eventually found the pattern for it.
This was a really simple and quick pattern – about 10 rows of half double crochet, about 10 rows of double crochet, and about 10 rows of triple crochet.
However, since velvet yarn is pretty heavy, this poncho was falling off my shoulders, so I added a couple of rows of single crochet with some decreases at the top to give it a more narrow neckline.
The velvet yarn is soooo soft. It was like being hugged by velvety softness.
The only downside I have seen was that the triple crochet produces pretty big holes, so that when I walk, a lot of air goes through the poncho and it’s a bit chilly. But otherwise, it has been one of my favorite things to wear.
